SMUGGLING OF SUBSIDISED FUEL

 

19.     Increased Penalties for smuggling of subsidised fuel

  

With effect from November 1, 2008, the Customs (Amendment) Order 2008 provides for higher penalties for any person who is in any way concerned with smuggling prohibited goods specified in the schedule, which includes rice, paddy and products thereof, premium and regular gasoline, diesoline and kerosene.

 

First Offence: A fine not less than B$10,000 and not more than B$500,000 and imprisonment of not more than 3 years or both.

 

Second and Subsequent Offences: A fine of not less than B$20,000 and not more than B$500,000 and imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than 5 years or both.
