CONTAINER PURCHASE
11. Can I still purchase Motor Gasoline or Diesel using a container?
Yes. Purchase of Motor Gasoline or Diesel using container is allowed subject to the following, the container:-
a. is an approved container, and b. meets internationally approved safety standards.
The amount of Motor Gasoline or Diesel that may be purchase as set by the Authority is as follows;
a. For personal use: the amount shall not exceed 20 liters and sales shall be restricted to Brunei Darussalam’s Yellow and Red Identity Card holders only.
b). For Fishing Activities: the amount shall not exceed 100 litres and purchases are restricted to Brunei Darussalam’s Identity Card Holders only. The purchasers shall at the time of purchase present a License on Fishing Gears issued by the Fisheries Department of Brunei Darussalam. Payments for the purchases shall be made using Fleetcard approved by the Authority only.
c). For Vessels and Boat: amount shall not exceed 100 litres and purchases shall be restricted to Brunei Darussalam’s Identity Card Holders only. The purchasers shall at the time of purchase present the Certificate of Registration of Vessel, or Permit of Boats, issued by the Marine Department of Brunei Darussalam. Payments for the purchases shall be made using Fleetcard approved by the Authority only.
d). For Company/Industry: Purchases limited to local registered Company(s) only. The amount of purchases shall not exceed 100 litres. The purchases are restricted to Brunei Darussalam’s Identity Card Holders only. Payments for the purchases shall be made using Fleetcard approved by the Authority only.
e). The purchaser is also required to fill up a form readily available at the petrol station for the Authority’s documentation purposes.
12. What is an approved container?
An approved container must be able to meet either of the following standards:
a. ASTM F 852-99e1, Standard for Portable Gasoline Containers for Consumer Use.
b. ANSI/ASTM D 3435-80. Plastic Containers (Jerry Cans) for Petroleum Products.
c. United Nations Recommendation for Dangerous Good Packing.
13. Why are only approved containers allowed?
An approved container is designed to be able to withstand any reaction to gasoline and other flammable liquid. The containers must be tough, high-density polyethylene, rustproof and dent-proof. It must also be designed in such a way that spillage and leakage of fuel vapours can be prevented.
Therefore, an approved container allows better safety to both the user and the public in general.
14. Can containers other than those sold at the petrol stations be used?
Yes, as long as they are in compliance with the above standard (please refer to answer to Question 13)
Examples of suitable fuel containers: jerry cans, 5-litre steel cans and approved plastic fuel containers.
Examples of unsuitable fuel containers: steel/plastic buckets, steel/plastic watering cans, glass/plastic jars and bottles. |
